Review Blog: Tidy Up

Welcome to my blog reader! After my group members and I were done with the process of editing the commercial, we went over how it turned out and discussed it. When we started as a group, we agreed that we would be honest with one another and open about what ideas we liked and disliked. We remembered this as we went over our final product, and we all ended up being happy about the results and turned out to be immensely proud of our outcome. In our eyes, all the elements necessary for the commercial to succeed had been accomplished. Though we did not follow what an everyday L'Oréal Paris lipstick would look like, such as having voiceovers with a smooth/charming voice, soft lighting radiating a warn feel, and themes that revolve around seductiveness. We wanted to add our own twist into it, make it more unique and go towards the emotional approach. We were able to advertise the lipstick while bringing our own style as a group to the table. Consecutively, we went on to look over how all the pieces within the commercial gave it meaning. For instance, the costumes we picked for our actresses. The costume we used for our older actress (Hailey’s aunt) was an elegant black dress, her hair styled with soft curls, black velvet heels along with a pearl necklace. While the costume of our young actress (Hailey’s cousin) was completely different. We styled our young actress’s hair with an adorable pink bow, dressed in a pink shirt with a jean overalls dress on top. The color pattern and clothing style changed completely between both of the actresses, the costume of the young actress helped highlight the fact that she is a child, innocent and youthful. While the costume of the older actress was used to highlight the fact that she is a grown up, sophisticated and mature. As a group, we came to the conclusion that the best way to illustrate the change from a young girl to an adult woman was through the costumes. In addition, even though the actresses did not have as much acting to do such as having lines, one thing that tied our whole commercial together was making sure that both of the actresses smiled while they were applying the lipstick. This connected our scenes, making them have a similar feel to them while also making them memorable, thus aim for the emotional approach. Also, we decided that the lighting would not be used to add any additional meaning, only used with the purpose of increasing the quality of the video. Then, before we started shooting our commercial, we went over some of the different angles with the camera to see which one would fit our video best and the most crucial of all was the tilt. The tilt was our most crucial cameral angle due to that it served as our moment of revelation, when the older actress picks up the lipstick from the floor emphasizing the change/transition from little girl to adult woman. We then decided which location in the house would suit our scenes best (before starting to film), we thought of filming in the bathroom because of its mirror but then we decided that the best option would be to film in the bedroom of our older actress. We came to this conclusion due to that it gave our commercial that feeling of nostalgia/home, and it was more visually pleasing. Well this is my cue to leave, till next time reader.
