Continuing Filming at First Location

Welcome back to my blog reader! Up next in our schedule was to continue the filming of the scenes that we had left in our first location, which is Hailey’s house. After moving on from the bathroom scene satisfied, the next scene consisted of Kyra applying a tracking shot to follow Hailey out of the bathroom and into the hallway. This scene was one of the ones that we struggled the most to film, not regarding actual trouble managing the camera but Hailey had a hard time delivering this scene as it felt a little bit unnatural to her while saying her line as our aim was for our character to reflect strong personality/attitude and be somewhat of emotional/dramatic. After a couple of takes, we were finally able to get just the way we wanted it. My team and I could most definitely agree that the most entreating/fun scene to film was the one and only the living room scene. There was a pan that we executed for this scene, and I feel that was the perfect choice as it truly let the audience automatically know that something was not right and helped the plot to be developed/understood. Regarding dialogue, there was a scene where Hailey was looking for and calling out to her family. We decided that the better option was to go for a desperate tone and allow to reflect on the character’s face. It took us a few takes for Hailey to get used to saying it exactly how we wanted but we were able to get it just right in a rapid manner. Then we reflected on that it was extremely important that we expressed/showed how our character felt through her facial expressions. Then we moved on to the scene on the couch, in this scene Hailey’s expressions had to be clear in order to show that she was confused to the core on what was going on. We selected a Dutch angel in this scene in order to truly illustrate the confusion to the viewer along with a zoom on her chest to showed going up and down to show the audience the way she was breathing for the purpose of letting the viewer know just how in distress she found herself in. We struggled quite a bit on getting just right amount of zoom for this scene, but after a few attempts we got it. After this scene, we continued with the scene where Hailey suddenly remembers that her mom mentioned that she was going to the mall. We burst into laughter trying to film this scene, as to Hailey had to run through the door. Then we moved to the last scene in this location, which was Hailey looking around the neighborhood and acknowledging that the streets were empty when they are usually crowded. During the street scene, she has to run away from the house down the street and then move towards the mall. Well this is my cue to leave, till next time reader!
